Leonard Lane in central Bristol looked like good subject to test our Gopro scanning stick. There is plenty of detail and visual interest, but some details like the railings, windows and bicycle details that would be difficult for traditional capture from motion techniques to render well.
The three cameras were moved up and down the lane to capture raw images of the walls from different viewing angles. The raw images were optimized in Adobe Lightroom. Then the cameras were aligned in Reality Capture, and the point cloud created. And finally the splat was trained in Postshot.
The result for the walls is great. The railings have reproduced well. The spokes on the bicycle wheels are clearly visible. And the room through the window looks pretty good.
The floor has some transparency and issues with floating artifacts. So one take away is to make sure the floor is captured with a specific pass in the same way as the walls.
