We’ve been using Niantic’s “Scaniverse” for on the go casual splats. What’s impressive is the ease of use. It doesn’t rely on cloud computing because everything happens on your phone’s processor. The quality is pretty good for hobby use, and the results usually keep a fairly true scale. They are also suitable for general inspection purposes. It is certainly no replacement for a more dedicated solution, like our scanning pole with multi-camera and better sensors. It can, however, be a nice fun alternative for a traditional photo when out and about.
All scans below are captured on an iPhone 12 mini ❤️ in under a minute 😁 between moments on set. They were processed in about 2 minutes. The scans can be refined with quickly diminishing returns at 2 minutes per cycle.
It is possible to convert these to meshes and textures. Just make sure to keep the highest quality and do not rely on these too heavily. They are equivalent to most other quick and dirty photogrammetry results as they tend to lack detail and refinement.
